I fell in love with all of BoWood’s products the first time I saw them.
A woodworking company out of Iowa in the U.S., they produce beautiful handcrafted wooden kitchen utensils that are designed and made to last for generations.
From the beautiful aesthetics of functional design to the material authenticity, from the quality craftsmanship to the technical precision, to the timeless originality and durability – no compromise has been made.
They use some of the most special wood types from around the world, ranging from the United States to West Africa to India and all over South America.
Each utensil is one-of-a-kind, handmade, a work of art meant to be used in the kitchen and durable enough to be passed along to future generations. Production includes a water bath and sanding three times to ensure total smoothness. The utensils are then hand-rubbed with a food-safe mineral oil that makes them attractive and easy to maintain.
The cookie spatula is amazing and scoops up really well. It can also be used for flipping burgers and serving bread.
The spurtle – a cross between a spatula and a spoon – is the most all-purpose utensil and a must-have for my kitchen. I use it for pretty much everything, from sauteeing vegetables, scrambling eggs and browning meats, to stirring soups – anything one can imagine. The curved and smooth surface makes it ideal for moving food around pans, as well as scraping food from the sides of bowls and pans.
The wooden scraper is another staple in my kitchen. Use it to scrape the bottom of pans, brown meat and even serve cakes. The flat edge also helps to scrape and separate food on cutting boards.
Apart from its beauty, wood is much safer and healthier to cook with. The wood does not quickly conduct heat, it does not chemically react with acidic foods and it will not scratch like metal does. Nor does it melt or leach chemicals or flavours into hot food.
Since learning about this wonderful addition to the kitchen, I have been happily trading in my plastic and metal utensils for these wooden ones.
I truly love BoWood’s products for their quality, workmanship, beauty and durability, and I’m now setting my eyes on one of their immensely good-looking wooden cutting boards.
