Having and keeping beautiful healthy hair takes work. Before looking into the best shampoos or hair care products, it all starts with the main tool, the hairbrush.
Most people make the mistake of assuming a hairbrush is nothing more than a styling tool. It is actually a treatment tool, one that rewards hair with numerous perks and achieves that well-groomed look.
There are many benefits that come with regularly brushing one’s hair. The right brush will stimulate blood flow to trigger hair-growing properties and a healthy scalp, distribute natural oils evenly through the strands, massage the scalp to aid with exfoliation of dead cells, release sebum to keep scalp moisturised and add shine and gloss to hair.
Having said that, a poor-quality brush can create frizz and knots. More importantly, it can even harm the scalp and hair. I have always used quality brushes, but as I realised when I graduated to the natural brush from Redecker, all quality brushes are not created equal. When I started using the Redecker brush, it was a revelation. I realised that a brush does not have to tug, pull and hurt, nor does it have to rip out a fistful of hair.
I have incorporated a brushing with Redecker’s boar bristle product into my hair care routine for the past three months with great results. I don’t think I will ever stop raving about it!
Since its foundation in 1935, Redecker has made its fine brushes in Germany, with much of the work still done by hand, using traditional techniques.
As gorgeous in its design as it is in execution, Redecker’s handsomely crafted brush comes with a waxed olive wood finish and Calcutta bristles – the hardest wild boar bristle one can find. The hairbrush glides through my hair with ease and comfort without causing friction or breakage.
These extra-hard Calcutta bristles are so stiff that they cannot be inserted mechanically. Instead, the brushes are crafted manually with immense skill and uncompromising craftsmanship. Only a few experts fully master the technique of traditional bristle insertion in which holes are bored into the wood and the sheaves of bristles are inserted one-by-one. The sealed holes are characteristic of hand-made brushes.
Above all, the boar bristle brush naturally conditions the hair by redistributing scalp oils. The unique structure of the boar bristle carries sebum – the oil produced by the scalp – from the scalp to the end of the hair shaft. For each brush stroke, each strand of hair is coated with a very small amount of sebum which over time repairs dry hair and adds a healthy shine. Also, it gently stimulates circulation and brings blood flow to the scalp to promote healthy hair growth.
All in all, it is the best brush I could ever have imagined – just the right hardness for brushing my hair and scalp vigorously, yet gently. My hair has regained its natural shine, whilst helping to keep it strong, healthy and smooth.
I use this natural boar bristle brush by Redecker every single day, twice a day, and it is one of my absolute can’t-live-without products. The brush is tough enough to last a lifetime and I cannot think of any better beauty investment.
